The Orrville community lost one of it's football greats on Saturday. Jack Leeder passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a truck accident.
He was widely considered one of the best all-around athletes in Orrville history, excelling in football and wrestling, and winning the 185 lb. State Wrestling Title in 1985.
He was inducted into the Wayne Co. Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. Read his induction bio here.

Big Win Over Senior
The Riders picked up their 4th win of the season in a very convincing way, 51-18 over Mansfield Senior. Joe Besancon had a big day throwing the ball, going 12-21 for 292 yds and 4 TD's and rushing for a TD also. For the season, Besancon is now 86/159 for 1156 yds and 10 TD's.
The Riders remain 11th in Region 13 and is looking more and more likely that they will have to win out, including a week 1o win @ Wooster to secure a playoff berth. Week 7 will be no easy win, the Riders travel to Community Stadium in Ashland to take on the 2-4 Arrows, fresh off a win over West Holmes.
Riders in College
- Tim Hiller - Western Michigan. Tim leds the Broncos to a 4th Quarter TD, and the Broncos moved to 4-1, beating Temple 7-3. Tim had another great game statistics-wise, going 26-42 for 252 yds and the lone WMU touchdown. Tim is now 127/183 for 1354 yds, 15 TD and only 3 INT.
- Tom Brenner had 9 tackles (8 solo and 1 assist) in Ashland's 24-17 win over Hillsdale.
- Tony McMorrow had 3 tackles in Heidelberg's 17-15 loss to John Carrol.

Jack was one of those tough guys you thought would live forever. Rough and tough but truely kind and good hearted. We will miss him at Orrville Middle School. He was a coach and a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, Heather, Sean, Taylor, and Holly. Jack was his mama's baby, her pride and joy. I'll say an extra prayer for her. God bless you Jack, we will miss you.
Jack put 100% into everything he did, be it athletics, academics and friendship.
Jack influenced everyone that knew him in some positive way, and as each of us remember him, reflect on how great Jack truly was and how our lives benefited from him being in it.
Having known Jack since elementary school and grown up in the same neighborhood I have so many memories of him not only as an athlete but just a regular kid. Many days he would come to my house and hang out with me and my brothers, he was a like a part of my family. We used to go to concerts together at Blossom and the Coliseum and we had so much fun together. A few friends and I visited Jack when he was going to college down at OU and I will cherish those memories. It's hard to lose someone whom you always felt was bigger than life, invincible, and thats how I saw Jack. My heart goes out to his family.
I had known Jack for nearly 30 years and competed against him in wrestling while attending Northwestern High School. Not only did we have our love of football and wrestling but we shared the same year and date of birth. Jack and his mother were two of the most genuine human beings I had ever met. My prayers go out to his mother and the rest of his family.

I can still see this little boy with blond scruffy hair walking into the old Boys Club on Main Street. Jack was a good kid and even a better man! He will surely be missed here in the community.

I knew Jack Leeder from many things, but was not very close to him. We became a little bit closer as his son began to date my best friend. My boyfriend is a dear family friend and I can tell how loved he was. He was a very caring man and he loved what he did with such a passion; A passion that we should all strive for. God bless you, Jack, and your soul will be remembered for ever and ever Amen.
